AIC 2024 Midterm Meeting, Color Design, Communication and Marketing

The call for abstracts for the AIC2024 Midterm Meeting ended on March 31st, having 128 high-quality submissions from people all over the world!

We have wonderful news: the governmental Brazilian scientific agencies are now supporting the AIC2024 organization, which elevated largely the scientific level of the conference.

Additionally, we are happy to announce important participations from the industry, such as Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director from Pantone Color Institute; Urangoo Samba, Head of Colour from WGSN London, and, Patricia Fecci, Marketing Manager at Sherwin Williams, among others. 

The tour attraction is being prepared, offering a wonderful package trip from September 20th to 22nd, to Cataratas do Iguaçu, an amazing place in the South of Brazil, to visit one of the wonders of nature. Also, a visit to Parque das Aves, where you can see amazing species of birds right beside you! 

We would love to see you in São Paulo! You will experience a scientific and industrial reflection on the conference theme, and see the wonders of the Brazilian culture, samba music, art, food and nature!

Gold Medal marks commitment to colour research and education

Congratulations to Prof Vien Cheung, our JAIC Editor and AIC Past President, who was recently awarded the Gold Medal by the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) – a leading educational charity dedicated to advancing the science and technology of colour worldwide – for her commitment to accessible publishing of research in the field. Vien was recognised for her 'prolonged and outstanding contributions to international colour research and education and its publication' as part of her work on establishing and managing a truly not-for-profit and fully open-access international colour journal for over 15 years. Launched in 2007 as Colour: Design & Creativity and renamed as the Journal of the International Colour Association after securing the AIC as a permanent publishing partner in 2012. Vien, in her capacity as Editor, has always been at the centre of the publishing process and guiding its development. The journal has to date had 34 volumes, and all of their more than 250 papers, overseen by Vien are freely available.

Vien said: "SDC was the very first colour society I joined when I was a fresher, and for many years I have had the chance to participate in its various committees and work with many experienced colleagues. It is particularly special to receive such significant recognition from a longstanding professional organisation that I have a strong bond with. I feel very honoured and contented."

Working across fields including Colour and Imaging Science, Colour Vision, Colour Design and Textile Engineering, Vien has authored 125 peer-reviewed publications throughout her career. Vien is also active in other charitable and educational organisations including the Colour Group of Great Britain, the UK Advance HE's Race Equality Charter and the Society for Imaging Science and Technology, in which she is the Chairman, a Panellist and a Vice President respectively.

Elections

On April 22, 2024, the members' meeting of the GdC-Associazione Italiana Colore was held. They were elected for the next three-year term, 2024-2026, as president Andrea Siniscalco – Politecnico di Milano, as vice-president and treasurer Alice Plutino - University of Amsterdam and, as secretary Filippo Cherubini - IFAC-CNR Firenze.

Color Culture and Science Journal - Special Issue on Color Dynamics in Cultural Heritage: Scientific Perspectives and Insights

Abstract: The study and analysis of colour have been fundamental pursuits for centuries, influencing various aspects of our lives. This significance is particularly pronounced in the realm of Cultural Heritage (CH), where objects are categorized into two main types: "immovable" and "movable." Immovable objects typically encompass architectural structures such as buildings, monuments, and their decorative elements, as well as settlements, gardens, landscapes, reserves, city neighbourhoods, and archaeological sites. Conversely, movable objects span a broad spectrum, ranging from works of art like illuminated manuscripts, paintings, and photographic media to archaeological artifacts and even large-scale objects like cars, planes, trains, and ships. This special issue explores the multifaceted relationship between colour and tangible and intangible heritage objects. Topics of interest include but are not limited to defining, testing, implementing, and developing specific criteria for studying colour in Cultural Heritage. We welcome submissions that shed light on how colour contributes to understanding, preservation, and appreciation of our collective heritage.

Call for Papers 19th Color Conference, which will be held online exclusively on November 28th and 29th, 2024

The Gruppo del Colore – Associazione Italiana Colore is announcing the 19th edition of the Color Conference. The international conference will be held online on Thursday, 28 and Friday, November 29 2024. The conference aims to promote the multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary aggregation of all the realities dealing with colour and light from a scientific, educational and professional point of view.

Special Session at the 19th Color Conference (CdC2024): Color in Games and Toys

The theme of the special session is to present and discuss how color is used in the design of games, video games, and toys to enhance their attractiveness, to communicate precise meanings, to make the game accessible to color-blind users, to increase the recognizability and visibility of its components, for marketing, cultural, educational purposes, etc.

Andrea Siniscalco, Matteo Sassi, and Alessandro Rizzi, coordinators of this special session, are pleased to invite you to submit a paper.

3rd Meeting: Factory Tour, Cook & Dine at Forster Kitchens

The End of Forecasting Season Leads Us to the CMG Summit Reveal

The end of April brings us to the end of Color Marketing Group's forecasting season. Over the next few months, steering of colour, material and finish trends will occur, culminating with the CMG Summit Reveal. The Summit Reveal held virtually on August 22-23, will showcase the 2026+ World Color Forecast™, with deep dives into Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America results, along with Color, Materials, and Finish trends.

Meanwhile, CMG continues to host monthly virtual ColorSpeak™ and ColorChat™ events exclusive and free to members. Our new membership offerings make becoming a member even more accessible—gaining access to these educational and networking events!
